Should I Homeschool my child?

For me the answer was an easy yes. My husband and I HATED traditional school. It was an awful job. No pay. Gross food. In some ways, it was the equivalent of jail. I am grateful to live in a country where getting an education is a right instead of a privilege.

Though we HATED spending almost 40 hours a week learning basically useless information

most of the time for years on end in white walled rooms, we both love to learn. I actually fell in love with him for his brain. Yes my husband is hot, but intelligence takes his physical beauty to the next level.

Returning to my point, we decided homeschooling our daughter is the best decision for us because we are dedicated to giving her useful tools to conquer the real world.

Through her studies, she will be studying an Afrocentric Multilingual Montessori inspired customized curriculum. We are raising her to be a world changer who takes an active roll in her community by being kind, compassionate, and brave.

In traditional public schools, there is much effort in the textbooks to constantly remind black people of the slavery time period and not enough teaching of the youth about ways to overcome our racist past and build an inclusive future for all emphasizing equality. Everyday students are required to pledge to the flag, but not required to treat each other kindly.

One of the things that terrified me the most about sending her to traditonal school was the idea of how often school shootings are happening. I was talking to a friend who is a teacher at a public school after the six year old became his teacher's murderer. She said, "It is basically neglecting your child to send them to public schools these days." She is not wrong. Besides school shootings, there are bullies and classmates who are poorly parented. 40 hours a week, children are exposed to all kinds of beliefs that are not in alignment with how you want them to grow up. That is a lot of unteaching to do in your limited time together in the evenings and on the weekends.

I thank God often that my husband and I work schedules allow us to be with her daily. Three days each and a family day! She has homeschool four times a week and learns content for every aspect of her life. At 10 months old, she began her official program. I'm not saying she is the smartest 1 year old in the world, but she is definitely in the top 5.

My great-grandparents weren't allowed to go to good schools and barely allowed to graduate from junior high.As someone who graduated from the International Baccalaureate Program in High School and with two college degrees, my daughter is my great-grandparents' wildest dreams. By the time my daughter is of 18 years-old, she will have already been prepared to do her part in making the world a better place.
