That's too much!

We are! ROCK CITY!!!!!!

In my adult life, I didn’t give tithes for a long time. I kept telling myself 10%???? I can’t afford that right now. I have now embarked on a tithing pledge to myself because God has been too good for me not to! I’m glad that God revealed the Rock City Church to me.

Rock City Church in Birmingham, Al has become my church home.

Church be so good, you can binge watch! I haven’t missed an episode in 3 years now! Here’s why:

  • They teach us how to read the Bible in a scholarly way, even giving us the vocabulary to explain the technique.

  • He doesn't make tithing time a show. Many churches pressure people into a spiritual ritual.

  • The sermon seri5s msy be included in a mixtape.

  • They are old-school and new-school AT THE SAME TIME! It feels like an old Baptist church and a non-denominational service at the same time.

  • It is a genuine, safe space! I’ve visited the church 3 or 4 times now and each visit feels like a spiritual hug. People we watch on DevoEnergy, the announcements, praise and worship never let that get to their heads. They will stop, talk with you, hug you, and make you feel seen and important.

  • This church makes you want to get involved.

  • There’s something about the hermeneutical loop he preaches in that makes the messages easier to remember when applying in the real world.

  • Most importantly: They use the Bible! Many churches these days are paraphrasing the Bible and watering down the message to placate the masses.

  • This is an erudite church so you need to fully commit to BECOMING better.

Growing up, I had two church homes. The first was my grandfather’s church in Atlanta. I’m not going to say the name because I don’t agree with the current leadership. The other church home was Word of Faith in Austell, Ga. I still listen to the sermons from time to time and this is where I began my American Sign Language studies. When my grandfather passed away, there was a lot of drama behind the scenes at the church that made it impossible for me to feel at home anymore. Three months before he passed, God helped me to find Pastor Mike Mcclure Jr. It has been a life and spiritually improving experience.

THE ONLY THING I WOULD ADD TO THIS GROWING MINISTRY IF MY VOICE MATTERED TO THEM, IS AN ASL DEPARTMENT TO GIVE ACCESS TO CHRISTIAN DEAF PEOPLE.

Just check it out for yourself! Watch every series in order if you can!
