Who knew that the biggest problem for raising a multilingual kid would be they have too many friends? Raising a social butterfly is giving! It's a certain kind of confidence my daughter has when meeting new kids that I love! However, this confidence is getting out of hand. She is a 3 year old version of me as a teenager! Yikes!
Welcome to the second quarter of 2024!
I hope your first quarter of the year was productive and had more positive moments than not. I officially have a threenager! We began homeschooling her officially right after her first birthday. The amount of information I wanted her to have before her brain developed the first 90% corresponded to the most difficult homeschooling curriculum I have ever written for a one, two, and now three year old.
One main concept we will be focusing on this year is building her concept of time. She knows the days of the week if we sing the song.
“Theres sunday,
Then theres monday…”
But I want her to have the ability to know
“ayer fue Wednesday, donc demain c’est vendredi”
Yes, I know that is three languages in one sentence, but there are only 7 days in the week so why not know AT LEAST 3 ways to talk about them?
In the process of helping her learn this, I created Trilingual stud T-guides. These study guide shirts help parents (i.e. my husband) remember how to pronounce the Spanish word, what the French word is, and how to sign it.
Why does raising a black trilingual toddler matter to me? It expands her ability to make friends beyond what they look like, communication methods, and where they live. She is a toddler without borders! (Médecins Sans Frontières| Doctors without borders)
