How to Homeschool, Preschool Edition.

When I started homeschooling my oldest, like you, I didn't know where to start, but I knew to start as early as possible. Immediately after learning my baby could hear my voice while I was pregnant, I began teaching her Spanish. Her ASL learning journey began the day she was born. Now, at 5 years old she knows 4 languages, is reading and doing math at a second grade level. What opportunities do you want your child to have available by knowing multiple languages?

For our second child, I have a more refined approach to duplicating this process with ease and the personalization needed to match her unique learning preferences.

Did you know that each year since the pandemic, the amount of homeschooling families increases dramatically? If you're like the parents who are taking school into their own hands so that you can give your child the gift of loving to learn, try to follow our daily checklist with your little one if you don't know how to start homeschooling your infant/toddler for preschool.

Please note: DON'T TRY TO STICK TO A SPECIFIC TIME FOR EVERY ACTIVITY. You are not a traditional school with their time constraints. Sometimes we start our homeschool day long after the sun has set because we live a dynamic, active life. Also, IT IS OKAY IF YOU DON'T DO EVERYTHING, EVERYDAY! You can use it as a suggested checklist so you don't beat yourself up for not completing it.

Weekly focuses include

• Color

• Number

• Sign

• Spanish Vocabulary

• Body Part

• Shape

• English Word

• Furniture

• Game

• Book (we read multiple times each day, but one book will be repeated throughout the week)

Daily Activities

• Board meeting (Discuss the day, date, time, weather, and activites of the day)

• Mobility (Sitting, standing, etc.) on command. We usually try this outside in some nice grass (futbol field or park)

• Music and Movement (picking songs related to the topic of the day)

• Motor skills (Fine)

• Motor skills (Gross)

• Signing during meals (best time to teach/learn new signs)

• Independent play (start playing together before stepping away)

• Speech development / Another story time opportunity

• Daily Focus

  • Lunes - Body

  • Martes - Colors

  • Miercoles - Shapes

  • Jueves - Outside vocabulary

  • Viernes - House Related vocabulary

  • Sabado - Clothes

  • Domingo - Animals

As she gets older we will incorporate letters, but for now we are building her brain using this checklist.
