For the last 4 years, I have been homeschooling my 5 year old. However, if you are a homeschooler, you know that sometimes finances can require you to take odd jobs so that you can still maintain your lifestyle. This year was that year for me. I held several jobs this school year including: Notary and Life Insurance Specialist and Trilingual Youth Instructor at a Pre-school. In my time at the Pre-school I decided to start bring my daughter and enrolled her into the free Pre-K program. We began to homeschool afterschool and on weekends. Well we were already doing that, but I, like many homeschoolers, shifted the way I taught her based on the schedule of that season. Instead of us doing our 3 day cycle 2x / week with Tuesdays being our only off day for homeschool, we began our 7 day themed cycle. Below I will list the days and give examples of the kind of activities we do.

Literacy Lunes (Mondays we focus on Reading, Writing, and Math)
We write about topics she wants. Sometimes we write letters to her friend. Sometimes, book reports. Sometimes practicing random sentences.
We read books we checked out from the library on interesting topics. I read my book and she reads hers side by side or at least in the same room. 20 minutes undisturbed. We are building her ability to focus for longer periods of time without a screen. I'm happy I included my goal to read more books this year into her program.
We use a math text book, work sheets, games, toys, and real life measurements.

Movie Night Martes (Tuesdays we focus on Movement and movie Analysis)
Go to the movies (Some theaters offer discounts on Tuesdays near us)
Watch a movie at home with subtitles in Spanish or Audio in Spanish and subtitles in English
Auditory and written analysis of the movie (Setting, Sequencing, Protagonists, Antagonist, Plot summary, etc.)
Dance party, going for a walk, or visiting a new park since our goal is to reach 50 parks this year!

Worldschooling Wednesdays (Wednesdays we focus on Money/Currencies, Spanish and American Sign Language)
We learn about countries in a deep dive including their: landscape(s), currency, national animals, imports/exports, food, culture, languages, flag, etc. We are building a profile on each country to decide which ones we want to visit.
Spanish - She's following a custom curriculum that allows me to teach her academic topics immersed in Spanish
Since I have Deaf friends who now have kids and grandkids around my daughter's age, I want her to be able to hang out comfortably at Deaf Social Events.
Technología Thursdays (Thursdays we use Technology to stay competitive. At this stage we are focusing on building her typing skills.)
She started at 7 words per minute typed, but it has improved. We focus on her ability to type using the traditional Home row method.
We use this day as a chill day. We play video games after she completes her "Can I watch TV checklist?". Our favorite video games are: The Nex Playground (This generation's physically involved Wii like game system), Paw Patrol on Playstation, Bluey on Playstation, Sackboy on Playstation, Leapfrog video game, and Frogger Joystick independent game.

Familia Fridays (Fridays are for family adventures.)
We are on a mission to vision 50 parks this year. As of May 1, 2026 we have only been to 10. We prefer parks with a water feature, hiking trail, or themed playground.
We also have the 60 day unlimited play pass from Dave and Busters for only $60. Which is great for after the park closes before we go home!
We had an unlimited jumping membership to a trampoline park, but ended it for now. But some days we would go to the park, then the trampoline park til they closed at 9-10 pm then Dave and busters til midnight or later depending on the location.
If we stay home for the night, we have a game night that's 2 parts. The first part is outdoors and after dinner we'd play board games and video games.

STREAM (STEM) Sábados
We build.
We destroy.
We spend time in nature.
We make science experiments.
We focus on scientific topics (Anatomy, Astronomy, etc.)
We write about what we learned.

Dope Domingo
We cook together.
We play dress up, pretend, and with toys.
We have a spa-day
We watch church online.

Homeschooling is about being actively involved in your child's academic and overall development. So even if you need to outsource for academics, what you do with your child when they are not in a traditonal institution is still homeschooling if you are engaging and leading them. Don't forget to play with your children today!
