I just had another baby! Here's what we're doing to duplicate the successes from our firstborn!

When you've had as many alumni as I have, you learn to ask parents for tips when their kids impress you. Yes, it may be impressive that my 4 year old knows 4 languages, but t

here were other things I wanted to make sure my children knew because languages can cross career industries. I want to give my kids the best chance. Some of the tips I recieved and implemented are the following:

  • Play Classical Music – Create a calming environment with instrumental music like Beethoven or other classical stations. Avoid lyrics to focus on rhythm and tone.

  • Sing the ABCs – Even a simple lullaby like the ABC song, repeated often, can help your child learn letters quickly.

  • Introduce Early Reading DVDs – Start around 4 months with programs like My Baby Can Read in both English and Spanish, even just a few minutes a day.

  • Use Real Words, Not Baby Talk – Speak clearly and consistently to your child in proper words to build language skills early.

  • Use Flash Cards After Age 1 – Begin alphabet, picture association, and number flash cards to reinforce early learning.

  • Incorporate Hands-On Letter Play – Wooden alphabet puzzles and bath-friendly sponge letters make learning tactile and fun.

  • Use Educational Shows – Programs like Sesame Street can teach a lot while keeping children entertained.

  • Teach Phonics Once Alphabets Are Learned – YouTube educators like Patty Shukla offer excellent phonics lessons for beginners.

  • Make Everyday Activities Learning Opportunities – Label body parts while dressing, count steps, identify colors of objects, and talk through daily routines.

  • Decorate With Educational Posters – Hang colorful, informative posters on walls to reinforce letters, numbers, and other early concepts.

  • Consider a Plant-Based Toddler Diet – Some parents notice benefits when limiting meat early, though this is optional and should be discussed with a pediatrician.
